The Ultimate Nepal Trekking Packing List
Packing for the Himalayas requires balancing warmth with weight. Here is our field-tested checklist:
The Layering System
- Base Layer: 2x Merino wool or synthetic thermal tops and bottoms.
- Mid Layer: Fleece jacket or grid fleece pullover.
- Insulation Layer: High-loft down jacket (800+ fill power recommended for high passes).
- Outer Shell: Waterproof, breathable Gore-Tex jacket and rain pants.
Footwear
- Well broken-in trekking boots with ankle support.
- Camp slippers or lightweight sandals for evening relaxation in teahouses.
- 3–4 pairs of merino wool hiking socks.
Hydration & Health
- Water purification tablets or UV sterilizer.
- 2x 1L Nalgene wide-mouth bottles (usable as hot water bottles at night).
